What is the best way to clean a hand designed wool rug?

My living room rug is 100% wool and should only be hand spotted. It sits on a rug pad, sheds like crazy and has been in place for two and a half years. I keep it vacuumed and spot clean as needed, but I would like to really refresh it. Any suggestions and what products should I use?
