Using throw rugs on top of carpet is normal?

It seems weird to use throw rugs on my carpet, but it’s off white and it has some really stained up areas that I want to hide. Is it weird or OK…like do people do it??

Yeah I know plenty of people that have that in their homes, I personally don’t like it but it doesn’t mean it looks bad, I’ve seen some homes where it actually looked pretty cool, depending on what kind of rug you select/
