How to replace wall to wall rugs with area rugs?

Now that we ripped up the wall to wall, we want to use runners and an oriental style rug going up the stairs. The upstairs hall is a very irregular shape. Any principles for making area rugs hang together?

  1. Shan says:

With the area rugs, simply put them on the floor.

There’s a little more to the runner, tho. I’d staple that in place using a heavy-duty stapler. Otherwise it will slip and slide all over the place and come away from the stairs. (Trip hazard.)

I would staple the runner not only to the tops of the steps, but also to the risers of the steps to keep it snug against the steps.
