How do I determine what an area rug is made of?
I recently purchased a small area rug at an auction and need to have it cleaned. Is there a way to determine what type of material it’s made of?
I did the burn test, as soon as the flame hit it disinigrated, so it was hard to tell if there was any smell. What would happen if it was silk?

Take a tweezers and pull one or two strand out of the rug. Hold these strands in an open flame, if it smells like burnt hair then it is wool, if it curls up and melts then it is a polyester.
good luck
