How Desert Smart Are You Being?

engineering science, urbanization and preparation have made it easy to forget that living in Utah means living in the desert, but water conservation remains a lively practice.

How many children do you bath each day? Every bath averages the use of just about 50 gallons of water. Your shower sends two gallons per minute down the drainpipe. Teeth bushing one gallon, washing your hands or face, one gallon, using your dish washer an average of twenty gallons per load, washing them by hand, five gallons and throwing in a load of wash, ten gallons of water per load, washing your car requires seventy gallons of water, usual methods of carpet cleaning can use up to 160 gallons of water.

The Utah Division of Water Resources has declared that water conservation is imperative in order to: hold expensive capital investments; to advance or develop existing water facilities; trim sewage flows, delaying the need for more wastewater treatment facilities; conserves energy as less water needs to be treated, pumped and distributed to the user; Lessen the leaching of chemicals and sediments into streams and aquifers; Reduce stream diversions, thereby enhancing water choice, environmental and recreational functions.

So in the interest of conservation, Utahns have been urged to run laundry machines and dishwashers only when they are full, to shorten shower time and substitute showerheads and faucets with water-efficient models and use a hose nozzle or turn off the water while washing vehicles. Carpet cleaning may seem a corner to cut in the interest of water conservation, but weighing and measuring the 160 gallons against 100,000 dust mites per square yard and more than 200,000 microbes of bacteria per square inch, well, is it a conundrum? A essential evil? Akin to the aforementioned measures for conservation, habitual carpet cleaning for a healthier home can be done water smart.

Chem-Dry’s process uses Certified Green Cleaner, billions of microscopic carbonated cleaning bubbles and a fraction of the water used by traditional steam cleaners. This process is not only Greener its Cleaner. Here in Utah, less water is more, but conservation aside, less water means less drying time and zero chance for mold or bacteria to cultivate.

The Carpet and Rug Institute has awarded Chem-Dry its Platinum Seal of Approval after stringent testing and having measured how well the extractor recovers water. Chem-Dry’s truck mounted hot water extraction cleaning uses about one-fifth the water of a traditional cleaner.  Chem-Dry’s boldness process of compounding natural cling ingredients and carbonation removes the dirt and grime at award winning levels.

Going Green, Eco Friendly, All Natural, Organic or Water Smart is easier than ever before, as the means to live in that manner are more promptly accessible. Another way, a drier way, is by calling Mr. Chem-Dry.
