How can I get rugs to lay flat?

Can anyone can tell what type of rug backing is best for wood (engineered wood) floors? Do some backings hurt the wood floor?
Is it necessary to put rug pads under area rugs on hardwood floors?








One poster is right about the thin under layment that you put under the rug. But you have to get the right type for what you are going over. There are types to go over hard surfaces ( ceramic ) there is one for hard wood and vinyl( won t cause a reaction and form a stain) and on for rug over carpet.
They come in many sizes and can be cut w/ scissors. They are "tacky" to the touch but leave no residue. Washing them in the washer will remove the dirt and the "tackiness" returns.

Go to home depot and get double sided tape. The 2 inch heavy duty kind. Peel one side and stick it to the carpet. All four sides. Lay the rug and them peel the other sides of tape one by one. Sticking the rug where you want it. And how. You could even just do it to one little section which I have done to a stubborn rug I have
