Should rugs only be used on wood floors?

Not tacky at all. I’m an HGTV addict. It’s quite common for designers to use area rugs on top of wall-wall carpet to create ‘areas’… and/or break up a large room into separate areas… For example use area rugs in a large multi function room to separate a dining area from the TV area.

In fact, I have an area rug in my living room that sits between the sofa and the entertainment center. It add a beautiful pattern and pulls the room together.

Heck no, people do it all the time! I think those rope rugs look great on carpeting and it keeps the high traffic areas of your rug clean too! As long as the color scheme matches, go for it!
