5 reasons to buy your rug online: Reason 3 – Reducing Stress

October 28, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

iStock_000008342034XSmallAt the beginning of this article series we stated that: rug shopping can be fun… for the first 5 minutes.

Rugs aside, shopping for just about anything can be stressful for many reasons. Stress has many levels of course, from mind annoyance to deep frustration, as well as many variables when it comes to causes or reasons for the source of stress itself.

In the case of rug shopping (and to keep things easy) we can define one of the main causes of stress as  doing something that we no longer want to do.

This applies to shopping in general. It can be fun to start with, but at some point the line between fun and tedious is crossed.

We’ve all been there. We all know instinctively when the fun factor is has expired.

Being caught in the middle of town on a busy Saturday morning, being pushed to and fro by the sway of the unrelenting crowd in and out of department stores, far away from your favourite chair, stops being fun when you’re struck by the sudden thought that you no longer want to be there.

That’s when the fun stops and stress sets in. And the longer we’re in a situation we don’t wish to be in, the more irritable we become.

Shopping online completely removes this layer from the equation.

Shopping online allows you to save huge chunks of time.

Rug shopping online is no different.

Up until only a few years, shopping for a rug (or anything else) required the traditional trip to the shops. The fun factor expiry was experienced by most people every single day, especially on the busier shopping days.

In earlier articles we touched on the facts that shopping for a rug online saves you time, as well as money. And with the saving in time comes a reduction in stress.

When you experience the convenience of purchasing a rug online, time is hardly a factor. There is no fun expiry issue: you can leave your computer screen and resume a different task at any point in the buying process, then return later when you’re ready to buy, without experiencing the dreaded feeling of wasting time – something that arises so often when shopping the traditional way.

What about buying a rug at Christmas?

Rug shopping can become even more tedious over festive periods such as Christmas, when the crowds are out en mass. Suddenly, an activity that can or should take as little as an hour can suddenly take all day.

Not fun.

And what about the rug sales?

We all like to get our hands on a great bargain when it comes to shopping, and rugs are no different.

There are rug sales everywhere if you know where to look, but chasing a bargain comes at a price: you’re going to have to beat the crowds and be prepared to invest your time queuing up behind everybody else who finds the rug sale. Moreover, you’re also going to have to be prepared for the possibility that the rug you want may be sold out by the time you get to the till, especially if it’s a great sale.

This all equates to time and stress.

Buying your rug online: the difference

Modern Stye Rugs have rug sales almost throughout the year. Our rugs are produced in various countries all over the world. We like to keep our stock very high quality and very original. When we say a hand-made Indian rug, we actually mean a rug hand made in India.

Sales in high street shops seldom have great bargains. Big department stores use sales days (such as the January sales) to rid themselves of old out-of-season stock.

Shoppers get a discount on the items, but they’re mostly out of season items that are no longer considered fashionable.

These types of sales are in reality nothing more than clear outs. And to get your hands on one of those unwanted items, you still have to beat the crowds.

On the other hand, our online rug sales don’t usually have an end date, which means that rug shoppers don’t need to beat a crowd and potentially get there ‘too late’.

More importantly, our rug sales are not a way for us to dispose of old or out of season rugs. On the contrary, our rugs are of the highest quality and we re-stock to meet demand.

So you can rest assured that when you buy a rug from us, you get a top quality rug, always.

And better still, you can almost always get your rug during one of our sales!

Bottom line: you save time, which reduces your stress levels, and you still get the best quality rug!

5 reasons to buy your rug online: Reason 2 – Saving Money

October 20, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

buying onlineWhen it comes to shopping for rugs, many people try to combine ease and speed with value as two of the most important factors affecting their rug shopping experience.

So our number 2 reason for shopping for rugs online is saving money.

When buying a rug, you have two general options:

  • buying your rug from a carpet shop
  • buying your rug online

Taking yourself to the high street in search of the perfect rug means spending time traveling to and from the traditional carpet shops in the first place. See our reason number 1 for shopping for rugs online.

Once you get past the time investment that goes into your rug shopping, whether it’s on of offline, your next immediate concern is usually cost.

When you buy your rug from a carpet shop, you’re usually paying for more than just the rug. As with most other shops, the business owner has to cover the costs of running the business by factoring this into the price of the products (in this case, the rugs).

In some cases, rug prices may reflect in some way the location of the shop and the cost of running the shop. For instance, you would expect to pay a lot more for the same rug in Harrods than anywhere else. Similarly, a haircut in a very exclusive haridressers will cost you a lot more than it would elsewhere (we all remember David Beckham’s £200 skin head).

For the rug shopper all this means one thing: balancing price with quality.

In order to get a good quality rug, you’re going to have to shop upmarket. The more upmarket you go, the higher the price you can expect to pay for your rug.

Unfortunately, many rug shoppers end up settling midway for a decent quality rug at a high cost (the most they’re prepared to spend).

None of us like settling for second best, especially when it’s an addition to our homes – one that we expect to have around for quite some time.

A rug is a very prominent piece of decor – second best rug means ‘not quite satisfied’.

Getting your rug online solves all this!

Online shopping changes the whole dynamic by cutting out almost every element of traditional shopping, which means a fantastic saving for the rug shopper.

  • Online shops don’t have to deal with any of the running costs that a traditional shop incurs.
  • This means that online shops don’t need to ‘recoup’ running costs by inflating their  product prices.
  • Online shoppers usually pay a little over the wholesale price of the goods (the profit markup of the online shop) which usually works out significantly lower than the retail price anywhere else.

This all means great news to the online rug shopper:

  • the shopper can expect to get the best for their money without compromising quality
  • the shopper can expect a good saving
  • the shopper gets to enjoy a great quality rug for years to come

The Modern Style Rugs online shopping experience:

As an online rug shop we are able to provide great quality rugs at rock bottom prices.

  • We don’t have any of the constraints that traditional carpet and rug shops have.
  • We source our rugs from all over the world, which means we have a greater reach than many traditional shops
  • We only stock very high quality rugs from their original countries, so you get to enjoy the real thing, not a replica
  • We don’t have middle people to deal with, which means you get the rug without any markup fees

We could go on and on about how shopping for your rug from the Modern Style Rugs website is the most cost effective option you have available to you, but we think it’s better to prove this by showing you our fantastic range of high quality rugs and our incredible prices.

Take a look at our rugs, find the one you like and give us a call on 0845 5190 354 to speak with us and ask us anything you want. We’re here to help you.

Can anyone recommend a good carpet anti-slip product – our rugs slide about on the carpets and have to?

5 reasons to buy your rug online: Reason 1 – Ease, Convenience & Speed

October 14, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

queing For many people, the number 1 reason to buy a rug online is ease, convenience and speed.

There’s a lot to be said for being able to purchase a rug online faster than it takes to boil a kettle.

Not only it is generally cheaper to buy most things online, but the saving is time in priceless. It’s the difference between spending your whole weekend shopping for a rug and taking 5 minutes out from your entire weekend to make a quick purchase.

Literally.

Generally, the decision process involved in shopping for an important item – such as a rug or a piece of furniture – is longer than shopping for other more mundane items such as groceries.

Typically, the more important the item is, the longer the whole process takes.

Furniture, carpets, rugs and similar items tend to have a lifespan of at least a year in the home. These items are normally chosen with more thought than clothes.

For most people- especially those who work during the week – time is a precious commodity. Taking a whole weekend to shop around for the perfect rug can be fun, initially, but the cost of the fun is not usually justified in terms of time spent.

A typical rug shopping scenario would play out as follows:

Saturday morning -

  • driving
  • traffic
  • hopping from shop to shop looking at rugs

Saturday afternoon -

  • hopping back and forth between previously visited shops to compare rugs as we narrow the selection down to a few
  • narrow down rugs to two or three

Sunday morning -

  • driving
  • less traffic
  • revisiting the last two or three rugs
  • deciding which rug to buy
  • queuing up
  • buying the rug
  • taking the rug back home
  • driving
  • traffic

Sunday afternoon -

  • home

Whilst a typical rug online shopping scenario may play out as follows:

Rug research online -

  • grab convenient blocks of time (e.g. whilst waiting for dinner to be cooked, between tv viewings or even sat on the couch enjoying your favourite soap whilst searching on your laptop)
  • bookmark (save) your favourite rugs
  • revisit each rug any time you want, in seconds, without leaving your seat
  • choose your favourite rug
  • buy the rug online

Even at the most basic level, once you know what rug you want to buy, the difference between buying a rug online as opposed to buying it in a high street shop is drastic. Take into account:

  1. getting to the shop
  2. queuing at the shop
  3. getting back home

Whereas the actual purchase process online takes literally seconds.

In the high street store example, your whole weekend is spent focused on rug shopping. We’re all familiar with the feeling of returning to work feeling that your time off was not well spent.

Indeed, rug shopping or not, this is time that you can’t get back.

Ever.

Conversely, in the second example the online rug shopper did a little research during the week at times that were convenient, without having to travel anywhere or stop doing anything else. In fact, the examples provided show ways in which you can integrate your rug shopping research into your every day activities without ‘dropping a beat’.

Then, taking the weekend shopping scenario, whilst the traditional shopper spent their entire weekend back and forth shopping for the perfect rug, the online shopper was able to do this in less than 60 seconds.

Keeping their whole weekend intact.

  • The result is exactly the same: both shoppers end up with a brand new rug.
  • The process is vastly different however.

Whilst the traditional shopper has no time to do anything else and returns to work a little ‘washed out’, the wise online shopper spends 1 minute making a purchase and keeps the rest of the weekend open to relax and do the things that makes them happy, thus returning to work refreshed and with a spring in their step.

Worth a try?

Rug shopping online really is convenient and a world apart from the old way of doing things, more importantly because it saves you time: the most priceless of all commodities.
